not 后面是省略了前句 不是直接加

I'm afraid not 可以认为是I'm afraid的否定形式,比如: --Is he coming today? --I'm afraid not.(=I don't think so.)

• I'm afraid。是个常用口语中的句头插入语， 它的出现不影响句子结构。意思是

        ‘恐怕’和汉语的应用场合类似。但英语口语中用得更多。

        当你要告诉他人或向别人肯定一件事(而且要告诉或肯定的事并不是听者所期待的事

        ) 时， 都可以在回答内容前直接加‘I'm afraid’。例如:
